The hermitage area is a silent area available for experienced meditators, both lay and monastic, who wish to undertake periods of solitary practice. Overlooking the valley, several Kutis stand in isolation from one another, ensuring ideal conditions for self-retreats. Connected to the retreat area is a library containing a comprehensive collection of material on meditation and Buddhism. The wide selection of books and tapes is available to all visitors while at the Wat.

All Retreatants staying in the Hermitage are required to follow the Eight Precepts:

The Eight Precepts are:
1. To refrain from killing living beings
2. To refrain from taking anything which is not given.
3. To refrain from sexual activity.
4. To refrain from lying and harsh speech .
5. To refrain from taking intoxicants
6. To refrain from from eating outside the time.
7. To refrain from dancing, singing, music, going to see       entertainments, wearing garlands, smartening with       perfumes and beautifying with cosmetics.
8. To refrain from a high or large sleeping-place. .
