The Wat also provides the opportunity for meditators to do self-retreats on an individual basis. This allows the retreatant to structure their own meditation schedule while their material needs are met by the Wat. For this purpose, 'kutis' (small huts) are available for people with established meditative experience, allowing them to spend periods of time in silence and solitude. Kutis are also offered to nuns and monks for periods of hermitage or study in support of their practice. All self-retreatants staying at the Wat are required do one hour selfless service each day and to follow the Five Precepts. If staying in the Hermitage you need to follow the Eight Precepts.
