Peace & Ease

There are million ways to practise Dhamma.  There’s no end to the things that can be said about meditation.  There are so many things that can make us doubt.  Just keep sweeping them out, then there’s no more doubt!  When we have right understanding like this, no matter where we sit or walk, there is peace and ease.     by Ajahn Chah

Q & A with Ajahn Suchart 2017

A Chat with Ajahn Suchart in English

During our Krooba Ajahn Trip to Thailand, we had the privilege of meeting up with Ajahn Suchart again this year.  Ajahn Suchart is a direct disciple of Luang Ta Maha Boowa having spent 9 years with him at Wat Pah Baan Taad.  He does not accept any invitation to teach outside his monastery.  However, he is available for Q & A between 2-4 pm everyday at his monastery.  Usually, there would be a large group of people at the sala by 2 pm, but on this day we were the only ones.  Tan Ajahn was very generous with his time answering many questions and giving us an inspiring Dhamma Talk–all in English. Enjoy!

Thinking & Doubting

There is this obsession with trying to figure things out—trying to know things through concepts, trying to get proof, to get facts and figures and the word of authority and experts.  Recognize that this is the thinking mind.  We might be highly intellectual, trying to understand Buddhism on that intellectual level, but we’re never able to figure out how to practice.

There is a place where there is no sense of ‘me’ or ‘myself’.  It’s not excited, depressed, bored, or whatever; it’s just empty, a clear, direct knowing.  This is where you have to trust in awareness because your thinking mind is going to doubt endlessly.  Only you can know what’s really happening in your mind.  Recognize that in terms of this present moment, here and now, this is awareness; it’s not your thinking mind.  The thinking mind will imagine anything—anything you think could be possible.  You can doubt yourself, doubt your motives, doubt your ability, and doubt Buddhism.  Doubt is the result of thinking—stop thinking and you stop doubting.
